Before You Install: AutoJeweler LED Product Pre-Install ChecklistUpdated a day ago

Complete this checklist before permanently mounting, drilling, trimming, splicing, or modifying any AutoJeweler LED emblem or lighting product. A quick pre-install test can catch wiring, controller, fitment, or connection issues before the vehicle is taken apart.

Best practice: Test the complete lighting system before permanent installation. Do not assume a product is ready to install just because the LEDs or controller look undamaged.

1. Confirm the Product and Fitment

  • Compare the product with your vehicle before removing factory parts.
  • Check the product listing for the correct year, make, model, trim, and mounting location.
  • Test-fit the emblem or accessory whenever possible before drilling, cutting, trimming, or applying permanent adhesive.
  • Make sure mounting studs, brackets, wires, and connectors will not interfere with shutters, sensors, supports, radiators, fans, or moving components.

2. Inspect the Kit

Before installation, inspect the product and all included components for visible shipping damage or loose connections.

  • LED emblem or lighting product
  • Controller, if included
  • Remote, if included
  • Power harness / inline fuse / fuse tap, depending on the kit
  • Mounting hardware
  • Adapters or extension leads, if included

If anything appears damaged or missing, contact AutoJeweler before modifying or installing the product.

3. Bench Test the Complete System

Connect the product, controller, and wiring harness together before permanent installation.

Verify that:

  • The product powers on.
  • All illuminated sections operate.
  • The controller responds normally.
  • The RF remote works if your kit includes one.
  • The mobile app connects if your controller uses app control.
  • Colors and effects respond normally.

Do not permanently install the product until the complete system has passed this test.

4. Check Every Plug and Connector

  • Make sure plugs are fully seated.
  • Align keyed connectors correctly; do not force a connector that does not line up.
  • Check for bent pins, loose terminals, or damaged wires.
  • Do not pull on the wire where it exits the emblem or lighting assembly.

5. Plan the Wiring Route

Before mounting the product, decide where the wiring will run from the product to the controller and power source.

Keep wiring away from:

  • Radiator and cooling fans
  • Belts and pulleys
  • Exhaust components and high-heat areas
  • Sharp metal edges
  • Hinges and moving body panels
  • Areas where the wire can be crushed or pinched

Secure wiring with zip ties after confirming the system works.

6. Identify the Correct Power Method

AutoJeweler products may use different power methods depending on the product and controller. Your kit may use a fuse-tap harness, an inline-fused battery harness, a plug-and-play adapter, or another product-specific connection.

Follow the wiring supplied with your specific kit. Do not substitute a different wiring method unless you understand the circuit requirements.

If your kit uses a fuse tap, refer to the AutoJeweler guide How to Use a Fuse Tap for AutoJeweler LED Emblems & Accessories.

7. Confirm a Solid Ground

For hardwired 12V products, a poor ground is one of the most common causes of flickering, weak output, intermittent operation, or failure to power on.

Use a clean, secure ground point such as:

  • An existing factory ground
  • Clean, unpainted chassis metal
  • The negative battery terminal when appropriate for the kit

8. Protect the Controller

Unless your product instructions specifically state otherwise, do not assume the controller is waterproof. Mount controllers and exposed connections in a dry, protected location away from direct water spray, excessive heat, and moving parts.

9. Test Again Before Reassembly

After the product is mounted and wired—but before reinstalling every grille, bumper, trim panel, or cover—test the system one more time.

  • Power the vehicle on.
  • Confirm the lighting product operates normally.
  • Test the controller, remote, and app.
  • Confirm wires do not contact moving or hot components.
  • Confirm fuse-box covers, trim panels, and body panels can be reinstalled without pinching wiring.

10. If Something Does Not Work

Do not keep changing wiring at random. Check the basics first:

  • Power source
  • Fuse / fuse tap
  • Ground connection
  • Controller power
  • Connector alignment
  • Loose plugs
  • App / Bluetooth connection
